About the Residency
Located in the heart of a medieval village in Southwest France, the BeArtz residency offers a unique retreat for artists to rest, recuperate, and create. The residency is the guard house (formerly A Boste) is a small castle on the Camino de Santiago, privately owned and lovingly renovated by its founder
This is an incubation space designed for painters, writers, sculptors, ceramicists, musicians, and wanderers seeking inspiration. Whether you wish to produce a body of work or simply retreat and meditate by the sunrise, BeArtz provides the facilities and atmosphere to support your journey.
The Location & Lifestyle
Historic Setting: Stay in a medieval castle featuring a spiral staircase and a four-story tower with stunning views.
Nature & Surroundings: Enjoy wild swimming in the river, explore the river island, or practice yoga on the river beaches and in the tower.
Community: Meet fellow artists and creative individuals. Residents often bond by cooking and sharing dinners together.
Amenities: The house is centrally located with village amenities within short walking distance.
Workspaces
Studios: There are 4–5 studios within the main house.
Additional Space: One Large studio are available just a few buildings away.
Shared Living Areas
Living Room: A comfortable space featuring an open fireplace and a Bösendorfer Imperial Grand Piano.
Library: A dedicated reading and writing room.
Kitchen: Full use of the kitchen is available for residents.
Art Collection: The house is filled with original artwork, inspiring creativity at every turn.
The residency offers 8 guest bedrooms, each distinct in character.

Residency Details & Pricing
Duration: Minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 2 months.
Cost: €900 per week.
Includes: Accommodation, studio space, and facility access.
Comparison: This rate is comparable to local inns but includes workspace and exclusive amenities.
Capacity: Generally 1–5 artists at a time (up to 8 maximum). During workshops, capacity may increase to 16.
Financial Aid & Subsidies
James Edward Scherbarth Legacy: One residency slot is free/subsidized in honor of James Edward Scherbarth.
Need-Based Assistance: If you have financial difficulties, you may apply for a subsidy. Awards are decided by the BeArtz group of artists/curators. Please explain your need for a subsidy in your application.
How to Apply
There is NO fee to apply. Applications are accepted in English, Spanish, French, or Polish.

Project Proposal: A description of the project or idea you wish to develop during your stay.
Work Samples: A brief description of your practice or a selection of works/writing samples (max 12 items).
